New gear cable
#1
I have just replaced the rear gear cable, the bike now runs and shifts okay but in certain gears there is either a clicking sound or the chain jumps a gear unexpectedly. Is this a tensioning issue? I have tried adjusting the mech via the rear barrel adjuster but it hasn't really helped...

It does sound like a tensioning issue and new cables will typically stretch at first so you may have to readjust a few times.
But if you can't get it to shift properly, the next thing to check might be for a "bent derailleur hanger"

Cheers Dave,
been fiddling a bit and seems better - have tightened cable again and adjusted barrell a few times either way. Hanger seems ok.
Thanks for your response.
