1968 Raleigh Record BB replacement
#1
Hello All

My bottom bracket is falling apart and I'd like to replace it with a brand new one. From reading sheldon brown's wesite, i understand that some older raleighs have peculiar BB specs. How do i find out if this is the case with ym 1968 record, and what are the implications for finding a new BB?

thanks!

Hi Jeff;

How do you tell - measure what you have. 1968 is not really an older Raleigh - 1948 would be an older Raleigh, 1918 would be an old Raleigh.

Get the tools to take apart what you have; most likely all it needs is new balls, proper lubrication and put back together.

A new BB will mean a new crank set - cottered cranks like the original on a 1968 Raleigh are not supported by cartridge BB.

Are you restoring, or updating? What is your budget?
Nigel
