Shimano TX31/51/71 w/ 8sp?

Does anyone have any experience with using a Shimano TX31/51/71 with an 8 speed cassette? Visual inspection suggests that they have enough travel. I am planning to use an SRAM MRX 8 speed shifter. Currently one of my bikes has a TX31 with a 7 speed Shimano twist shifter, and the other has a TX51 with a 7 speed SRAM MRX.

In all actuality it may work, but I wouldn't suggest it. I would go with a 8spd shifter.

I know not all SRAM shifters work with Shimano derailleurs and vice versa, because the mechs require different amounts of cable pull to move one sprocket or chainring. I'd stick to using Shimano shifters with Shimano mechs and SRAM shifters with SRAM mechs to be on the safe side.
