Very sad since i became attatched to it anyway time to shop for a new bike and i am thinking of these two : http://www.sunsetmtb.co.uk/shop/index.php?product_id=1087&category_id=77 or http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_518285_langId_-1_categoryId_165499#dtab.

Have a look at the Python Impact on this site, says you should be a member of Utility Warehouse, but you could always e-mail a query.

I personally wouldn't have hydraulic brakes, difficult to service.

personally, the bikes look pretty equal. can you test ride either? i'd make that the deciding factor if you can. because one might feel better than the other. personally, i like the carrera kraken better. i love the look of the frame... i saw one on ebay, but its in the uk and i live in ny Sad

Sorry to hear about the stolen bike. Of the two you've linked to, I think I would probably go with the GT. My friend has an Avalanche 1.0, same frame, slightly higher spec components, and he's pretty happy with it, although I found the riding position a little too upright for my taste when I had a quick go.

You could also take a look here: http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/, I bought my bike from them. They offer a lot of previous years models, often with very little differences to the current years specs but with a substantial discount.

Lastly, if you're using a bike purely as transport and regularly need to leave it somewhere that isn't completely secure I would suggest getting hold of a "rat bike", something that is perfectly serviceable, but tatty and unnapealing to thieves. Have a look in the local papers or on Ebay for something used and fairly cheap, but essentially OK.

Hi thanks for your input, I have purchased the GT to be delivered tomorrow can't wait. i ride to work everyday and have an underground carpark where i can park my bike, it is very secure as it is manned and cctv 24/7. I lost my bike due to working on a weekend and the carpark had the shutters down but i didn't realise that i could just buzz security who would have just opened the shutters. oh well. I have purchased a kryptonite with an £800 guarantee which i will take advantage of.

And thanks to pauls cycles sunset mtb matched there price! so that ws an added bonus didn't like the guy i spoke to as he was was rude when i phoned pauls cycles otherwise i would have bought
it there.
