New equipment-Brakes and gear shift indicators
#1
I was just at a bike store looking at some new equipment. Man talk about back into the past. I have seen so many different brake configurations along with the infamous low U back wheel brake.
Now the new hot brake is the side lever like I had on my first bike more years ago than I care to admit. :-)

And I am looking to replace my Shimano 200GS 7speed rapidfire shifter with simple push push levers. Been told too many people got confused so now we have push pull levers with gear indicators. How many of you look down to see what gear you are in. Don't you know when it feels good. Sorry minor rant.

The system that can replace my current 7 speed shifter seems to be the Shimano Alivo STX MC40. Any opinions on this set up. Durable?

Shame no split two piece handlebar mounts are made and one needs to remove all the levers and grips.

Hi George,

I have my shifter indicators all mucked up presently but as you suggest, I hardly ever look at them anyway... I used to ride an old Suzuki GSX Katana which had an illuminated gear indicator which (at the time), I thought was right cool... Still even driving a motorbike you should know what gear you're in...

Maybe I'll clean them out to get back to the old days (not!).

Ha,Ha. my 91 BMW motorcycle K75S had a gear indicator(first of many bikes I had before, w/o indicator), I kind of liked it.
I have been lubing my bicycle hubs and prepping my bikes. The shifter indicators are nice looking, anyway. Will see how they do on a bike trail.
