This is the end result of my friend Alex, and my latest project. It is for his younger sister (10 yo).

We picked it up on CL for a very reasonable price, the derailleurs, seat post, frame, forks and wheels are as purchased. It has cro-mo frame and forks. It was a rigid frame mountain bike, now cruiser.

New: Tektro V-brakes, Sunrace 11-28 7 speed cassette, Shimano M131 crankset, Shimano UN55 115mm BB - a bit narrow but suits the look of the bike - but also the granny ring is not useable due to tire width and narrow BB. The pedals are rubber block from an '80's Schwinn (Giant) World Tourist.

Around $200- including the donor bike. The donor bike was a lucky score. It was only $40- and in excellent condition, got it from the original owner. She had purchased in it new, and had not ridden it in years.

I rode that bike all during college 1987-1993. I bought it new at Costco. It rode all over campus up and down stair. All over mountains. It was a great bike which now resides in my back yard.

I got a new bike now. But I am going to get that old bike and rebuild it. My new bike is a specialized rockhopper sport.
