Rattling chain
#1
I just overhauled a bunch of parts on my hard-tail thanks to the great video tutorials.
I replaced an OEM hub and 8 speed freewheel with a Deore Hub and an CS-HG50-8 Speed cassette.
I did the replacement because old hub had a broken axle and freewheel had a lot of teeth missing... Yep it's been abused.

The thing is the new cassette works great but for the higher gears (3 smaller cogs) when in combination with the biggest chain-ring. The smaller the cog the more it rattles (when actually accelerating, almost no rattling at constant speed). I just saw the tutorial on chain wear and tomorrow I'll measure it... I wonder though... would a worn chain rattle on a new cassette?

Yes.

ALWAYS replace the chain when you replace the cassette/freewheel.

I've just measured the chain...

It's measuring more than 12" 1/16 but less than 12" 1/8 so I guess that I'll be ordering a new one.
