I am trying to find the age of my bike, Bridgestone Kabuki Super Speed. The serial number is I 880369.

I found that the first number after the the letter is the last number of the year, I.e 8 for yours so most likely 1978 but maybe 1988, do you have anymore info on the bike?

And the l would stand for December of that year from what I’ve read

Commenting here by request. The "Kabuki" line was a side brand of Bridgestone. I do not know what the serial number convention was, but they were only made circa mid '70s-mid '80s as far as I know; so yours would more than likely be 1978 if the serial number is coded as the previous comment mentions. Mass produced so not of great value except top end "Diamond" models (still not high dollar). If your components are original then you can check their date codes (Sun Tour?) to get a verification as to approx. year of manufacture. Original 10 speed would be earlier than a 12 speed. I believe they all had die cast alloy lugs with low to mid grade steel tubing. Probably $100-$150 depending on condition, originality, and components. I doubt it would bring $200 except in great condition for that one buyer wanting it for sentimental reasons (maybe) or to collect (doubtful). Like all Bridgestones, in general, they were a decently manufactured bike, but never top end quality due to mass production and lack of fine workmanship. I'm sure it would make a fine commuter/recreational bike without modifying it. A photo would help to clarify year, but component dating would be your best bet. I do like their head badge though; probably about $10 value in itself.

Can you post a picture of your bike, maybe we can go through the old catalogues. They weren't very popular bikes but had a cult following. we can match pictures to the old 1980s and 70s catalogues to find the age. I couldn't make sense of the serial number. Looks pretty random. Maybe there's some other marking on the bike.
