New to riding! I have a bulging disc that is pinching my nerve in my back, so I want to start sloooooow to see if my back can handle it. Thoughts? Advice?

You might try just going to a gym or friend's house (I know not best conditions for that right now) and jump on a stationary bike/spin bike/trainer to see how your body reacts. As Painkiller stated, you already know how you need to start out; at least on a stationary bike you won't have to pedal back home if you become too uncomfortable to continue.
