All bikes should be assembled by a qualified person. Bikesdirect bicycles are no different. It will need a complete check over, adjustments and tune. This will take some special tools to do properly. If there is a dependable local shop that will do this for under $100 and back their work, I would recommend that route to be able to enjoy your new bike to its fullest. I have seen many things wrong on these bikes right out of the box. I did a write up on these a few years ago i will post a link to it if I can find it.

P.S. Those who come here for help and sign up to be a member should show some earnest by filling out their BIO as to Location at least, as this may help with many questions and answers. Who knows, you may even live down the street from one of us who may help you.

Hey Schooner,
Painkiller and myself are again on the same page.
I am not familiar with how "complete" BikesDirect bikes are upon arrival. Even being "handy" is different from being knowledgeable/experienced. I have been riding and rebuilding bikes for over 40 years, surprised that I'm alive after some of my early "handywork"; and the technology has significantly changed over the last couple decades. I have never worked on a disc brake system, and although I feel more than confident that I could install and adjust them, I would still have them checked by a reputable mechanic. I have learned more about those brakes here from folks who probably have not been experienced doing the type of bicycle work I've been doing, but are far more knowledgeable about those components than myself, even if only riding for a couple years. So unless you really know your "stuff" please get it checked out if you do indeed build it yourself.
Even if you have a shop do the work; request that their tech tests the bike first, and then test it yourself before paying and leaving!

Help you just for a cold drink and/or a hearty thank you. The cycling community is fairly tight, even across disciplines and experience since we all want to have a safe and enjoyable ride.
Take care,
Jesper
