Basic Shifter Question
#1
[attachment=3549]

When both shifters are all the way forward where should the chain be on the front chain ring and on the rear cassette? Thanks in advance.

first; in this case you do not have a cassette, you have a freewheel.

On most (not all bikes) when the left shifter is all the way forward, the chain should be on the smallest ring in the front. Suntour front derailleurs are set up so that when the shifter is all the way forward, the chain will be on the largest ring in the front.

All rear derailleurs that I am aware of are set up so that when the right shifter is all the way forward; the chain is on the smallest cog in back.

Thanks. Trying to anticipate problems when I go to put the new cables etc on. Was not in working order when given to me.
