Tapping for pedals
#1
I've been manufacturing my own crankset and have come to pretty much the only thing I can't do easily which is tapping for the pedals. I've been told that the taps from Park Tool are designed only for chasing dinged threads versus full treading which is what I am doing. I cannot think of any other alternatives since 9/16-20 is a special size, especially a left hand.

or if you wanted, you could single point the thread with CNC mill.......

Thanks. We have a single point threader but I'd rather not crash a $200 tool for two pieces.

I have two local "old school " hardware stores that I would expect to find stocking both taps, perhaps you should give the locals a try. I am often surprised.

I contacted Park Tool and asked if their taps are suitable for full threading. The taps they make do full threads. They describe them in the catalog for thread repair because most bike shops don't know anything about machining.

So if you want to do full threading with Park tool taps, it's ok even though they say otherwise.
