Tire pressure for urban bicycle
#1
Bought my first city bike. What is an optimal tire pressure for an urban bicycle? Also how often should I pump them up?

First of all, what tire is it? There isn't a one single standard tire pressure, it depends on the tire model/type/dimensions etc.

I see, for these it's max 85psi or 5.8 BAR, so I'd suggest to keep it around 5.0 (72-75psi) and don't overdo it.

Most tires I run @ the max pressure for urban use. Having to pump them up every week or so is normal, sometimes more than that. get a good tire gauge and check often. what ever pressure you decide to go with, pump about 5lbs higher than you want because when remove the pump you will "hiss" out just about that extra 5lbs. I recommend a nice track/floor pump with a gauge and capable of at least 120psi

Thanks guys, this info helps.
I will lookinto buying a proper pump with 120+psi like you suggested and the indicator. Can't keep doing this anymore. So far at home have used hand pump for emergencies. But mostly have pumped at the free tool stations that we have on the streets here or at friends. Half of those pumps don't have the pressure indicators..
