Cup/cone bracket 116mm
#1
Hello all, I hope you can help me out here, I have a Jamis Beatnik single speed bike 2015

the cranks have a lot of play in them. I have tried tightening the lockring on the NDS as it was quite loose.

but it makes no difference at all. Do I need a new BB I was thinking of a shimano sealed cartridge type but

the actual spindle size of my bb 116mm and shimano don't do that size only 115mm or 118mm can you help?

also do I need to take of the cranks to tighten it properly?

many thanks if you can help?

you have to adjust bearing pre-load too, not just the lock ring. If you are going replace and go with a cartridge style, there are plenty of square taper to choose from in 116mm. does not have to be shimano brand. the 115mm shimano would be fine. However I prefer the cups to be alloy over plastic, not knowing what you are looking at or where you are from. one like this would be fine:

Just make sure you have the correct shell width.

For bearing grease, any water proof grease such as Phil Wood ( costly) or boat trailer axle/bearing grease will work fine. As far as tools for the cup and cone with a lock ring, posting a picture of what you have will help (both sides). If you are going with a cartridge style, clean the threads well and apply grease to the shell threads (more is better than not enough). A standard Shimano Bottom bracket tool is all you need to assemble. (Park tool BBT-22). You may also need a crank puller (Park tool CWP-7).
