Picked up a new project today. Pics are all up now.

I have more pics but loading more then one at a time is a problem for me. Finally after 40 minutes I got them uploaded.
Paid $40. It had been sitting in the thrift store for over a week and nobody wanted it. I think it is chromoly, but says light steel. Sears Free Spirit Explorer V bike. Seems pretty complete.

The brakes are cool.

That is a really small frame.

The steel cranks would point towards "hi-ten" steel frame, rather than cro-mo.

With a better saddle, I bet it has a nice ride due to the long wheelbase.

What are your plans for it?

I'm going to clean it up, remove the rust and rebuild it. I will keep it as stock as I can. Clean and repair all the reusable parts. I will put newer tires on it, replace the cables, probably a new cassette if it is worn out, new chain etc. Replace the bearings if necessary. Just a recycling job to pass the time. The frame, wheels, handle bars and fenders look fine. Not sure if the seat post and forks are frozen or not. I will check that first. I'll post a pic when I'm done. It will be more about my labour and less about spending any real money.

i have started the rebuild. this bike was made in Thailand. The parts, chain ring, derailleurs, clean up very nicely. the bearing are all in clips. . for a Sears bike I'm really impressed.

All finished now. Will take for my daily ride tomorrow. Took it around the block and was pretty happy with the ride.
New chain, brake pads, all new cables with covers, new tires, new used pedals, all the bearings greased, lots of elboe grease, new seat. Total investment around $100. Plus $40 for the bike. Salvaged a set of fenders, bike mirror and a rear carrier rack. Education costs money. Here's a couple of pics.
